The FMCSA has announced that companies that utilize paper logs AND in-cab GPS systems (like QualComm, PeopleNet, etc.) will soon no longer be required to maintain supporting documents for their paper logs!
The FMCSA is making this change because GPS data provides such an accurate audit trail that falsified logs can be detected with GPS data alone. The new freedom is scheduled to go into effect 30 days after it is published in the federal register.
With the RapidLog GPS Validator, carriers can cross-check GPS data against logs now, to find falsified logs automatically to help with the increased scrutiny coming with CSA 2010.
